Chicken liver and vegetable sishebo

Now that the Christmas season is approaching, family will arrive from all over to gather together and enjoy the holidays. Make sure you have the right sishebo recipe to fill everyone’s tummies at your wonderful gatherings.

Spicy chicken liver and vegetable pie

This recipe has a great flavour and is suitable for 6 people.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 500g chicken livers, cleaned
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Rajah All-in-One Curry Powder
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 Knorrox Chicken Stock Cube
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp Robertsons Mixed Herbs
  • 2 tbsp Knorr Brown Onion Soup
  • 6 potatoes, mashed
  • ½ cup cheddar cheese, grated

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the chicken livers until brown on the outside and pink on the inside. Set aside.
  3. Add onion to the pan and fry until soft. Add Rajah All-In-One Curry Powder and fry for 1 minute.
  4. Add the mixed vegetables, stock, water and the Robertsons herbs to the pan and simmer until vegetables become tender.
  5. Mix the Knorr Brown Onion Soup with 4 tbsp of water and mix to form a paste. Add the paste and the chicken livers to the pan. Allow to simmer for 3 minutes or until paste becomes thick. Then place the mixture into a glass casserole dish. Adding the soup is ideal for your sishebo to get the best savoury taste!
  6. Top the mixture with mashed potato and sprinkle with cheese. Allow it to bake for 25 minutes. Cheese should be melted when ready.
